About us

Student community for strategic games at the University of Innsbruck.

DECK is a student association at the University of Innsbruck for strategic card games, pen-and-paper role-playing games, and tabletop formats.

Who we are

DECK brings together students from all semesters as well as employees of the University of Innsbruck who share an interest in strategic games, creative game systems, and community exchange.

Our goal is to create an open space where people with similar interests can meet, play together, learn from one another, and explore new formats. It does not matter whether you already have tournament experience, regularly play pen-and-paper games, paint miniatures, or are just getting started with a game system.

We currently focus on strategic card games, pen-and-paper role-playing games, Warhammer 40,000, and Kill Team. Our range of games and formats may continue to grow depending on the interests and ideas brought in by the community.

Our goals

DECK is intended to be more than just a game night. We want to build a long-term community at the University of Innsbruck that connects people across study programs, semesters, and university roles.

An important part of this is science communication. Strategic games involve many topics that are also scientifically interesting: probability, mathematics, game theory, resource management, psychology, storytelling, design, worldbuilding, and social interaction. We want to make these aspects visible and communicate them in an accessible and playful setting.

At the same time, we want to make it easier to get started with different game systems. New players should be able to learn rules, ask questions, find other players, and try out formats without pressure.
